COMMUNITY ACTION CENTER

The Community Action Center of Northfield (CAC) provides a tremendous amount of support to those within our community who need it most. Some examples of their efforts include:

     *  Providing access to healthy foods at one of their food shelf locations
     *  Offering job training and placement for low-income, underemployed or unemployed individuals
     *  Providing emergency or transitional housing so everyone has a safe place to stay

     *  Nurturing the next generation by helping set youth up for success with programs like Operation Backpack,
         Operation Joy, and the Summer Food Service Program

TORCH

The Northfield TORCH Program is a collaboration among members of the school district and community partners to address the issues of the achievement gap.  Originally, TORCH served Latino students,
but because of its success, the programs are now available to all traditionally under-served students, including first-generation college students and low income youth.  

​

TORCH offers tutoring and academic advising, as well as ACT preparation, leadership opportunities
and career exploration.  They also facilitate college visits and experiences.  Among their many programs, they offer a PSEO program that allows students to obtain college credit for free while still in high school.

​

As the TORCH program evolves, they partner with community members to meet the changing needs
of students within our community.

HealthFinders Collaborative

HealthFinders Collaborative (HFC), is a community health center which provides a comprehensive primary
access point to health services for individuals and families of Rice County who have limited access to care.
They offer primary medical care, dental medication assistance, mental health, patient education, advocacy and insurance enrollment, community-based wellness programming, and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Opiate addiction. HFC believes health happens in the home and in the community as much or more as it does in
the clinic. Services are provided at their offices in Northfield, Faribault, and at numerous community-based locations.  They accept Medical Assistance (MA) and other forms of public insurance. Uninsured patients are charged on the sliding fee scale, however no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Established in 2005, HFC is a growing non-profit in the dynamic field of community health care.

Greenvale Park Community School

The Greenvale Park Community School provides free, out-of-school time programming for students and families.  Breakfast Buddies eat breakfast with Greenvale Park students once a week, talking with them about their upcoming day, playing games or helping with homework.  The Greenvale Park PLUS program and other clubs are hosted after school for students, and on Tuesday and Thursday nights activities are hosted for the whole family.

The REUNIR Project

The Immigrant Task Force invites all members and friends of the church to participate in the REUNIR Project. The project uses bracelets imprinted with the words REUNIR as a way to remind the wearer of the plight of children and families that have been separated and detained at the U.S.-Mexico Border.  "REUNIR" means "BRING TOGETHER". The bracelet is a way to keep this ongoing issue and crisis in our hearts and minds, and to encourage action. 

 

The ITF is working with REUNIR's founding organization, the First Presbyterian Church in Marshfield, Wisconsin.  Our hope is to have additional bracelets on hand for members of the congregation and the community this fall to help reignite conversation and action.  Follow the REUNIR Project's efforts shared by First Presbyterian on Facebook by clicking here.

Northfield Supporting Neighbors

Church and community members can support our neighbors facing challenges related to immigration status with contributions to Northfield Supporting Neighbors (NSN) through the Northfield Community Action Center. 
(The Community Action Center is the fiscal agent)

​

This fund provides emergency financial assistance, including legal representation, payment of bail, or sudden loss of a breadwinner, particularly to people not eligible for other programs.
